West Lake Hills Police Department Close Patrol Guidelines:

  1. The following are not eligible for the Close Patrol program:Untitled design (6)
    • Commercial properties
    • Businesses
    • Rental homes occupied for less than 30 consecutive days
    • Unoccupied homes for sale
    • Residences where someone is "house sitting" or otherwise residing in the residence while the homeowner(s) are absent. This does not apply to person(s) feeding pets or stopping by to periodically check on the residence.
    • Absences of less than 24 hours
    • Absences occurring more than 14 days in the future
  2. Close Patrols will be performed if time permits during the shift. Depending on workload, the close patrol may not be checked during any specific shift.
  3. It may take up to 48 hours to get the Close Patrol request into the system for officers to start checking.
  4. The resident can only have one open Close Patrol on any location at one time. This Close Patrol can be for a maximum of 30 calendar days. Once the Close Patrol has expired, the resident will have to fill out a new request for a Close Patrol.
  5. If, during the course of checking the residence, Officers find the resident has returned or there is a "house sitter" at the house, the Close Patrol will be ended.
  6. The maximum number of days of Close Patrol on any one location in any rolling 12 month period is 120 calendar days – i.e., you can have four 30 day Close Patrols in a rolling 12 month period.
  7. We will be contacting you by phone to verify the start and end dates of your close patrol. If we cannot reach you or your emergency contact to verify the dates, we will not conduct a close patrol on your residence.
